We have a couple posts about the current and projected levels of increased spending in online advertising; however, an interesting report made its way onto my screen today. The overall average cost of keywords are cheaper when comparing December 05 to December 04.
The info was gathered by Fatham Online, an SEM agency. The report shows that a few categories did show increased keyword cost, including the automotive and travel categories.

I have seen a huge decrease in price over the last month. but I have also seen a huge increase in the # of clicks, while the quality has plummeted. I guess the new year always means new partners for the big engines, and we get charged for 6$ for clicks from joesinsurancewebsite.com.

The start of the year is that biggest time of year for insurance traffic – so the increase in clicks is to be expected.
From the sound of it Marty, you must be doing some contextual advertising. What service are you using that is charging you $6 for a click on contextual matching? That sounds a bit high.
