Google Enhancing Its Analytics?

January 25th, 2006 by James Omdahl

For those of you who have not seen the superstar powers of Google Analytics, I have one thing to say: get your place in line now! InsureMes James has been working with Google Analytics for a few months now, and he raves about the data he has access to review: everything from how his site was found and used to a global map pinpointing geo-visits (James is loved in India).

Here is where I may burst your bubble: Google Analytics was such a phenom that it is full…not accepting anymore site submissions. However, dont let that stop you from signing up for it and claiming your spot in line while they increase the analytic capacity. You can do that here.

Here is where I hope to make you smile again: Google has partnered with Zaaz, an analytics firm, in an effort to ramp up its own analytic efforts. When will the doors of Googles magic analytical factory open back up? Only the Google-Loompas know for sure…but it could be everyones golden ticket.

Please share any Google Analytics stories, if you have them….

Hello Jack. Nice information about Google Analytics. Ive found this blog to be very helpful as an affiliate of InsureMe..

Can InsureMe integrate itself with Google Analytics to allow us to track conversions from our site through to a completed lead form? I know that you guys would need to add some code for each of us, but can it be done? I believe that this could be very useful for affiliates and may allow us to increase leads and continue to improve on the quality of leads sent to you guys.

    Thanks.

    Chuck

Hi Chuck – thanks for the suggestion.

We know that adding accurate conversion tracking technology to our site would be a big win for us and our affiliates. We have tried to implement an independent product recently, but due to security limitations of that product, we were unable to roll it out to our affiliates.

The good news is we are currently in the process of adding functionality to our lead site that will allow conversion tracking from Yahoo! Search Marketing and Google AdWords. It is my understanding that this functionality will be available for all affiliates when it is rolled out.

We have been told by Google and Yahoo that Conversion Counter and Search Optimizer currently cannot take multiple pixels/JavaScript on a single page for multiple Google or Yahoo accounts. This adds some additional complexity as our current lead site is not equipped to handle that type of a setup, being as we would have to have customized lead pages for every affiliate.

I would not expect this conversion functionality to be added for a few months (we have a lot of awesome projects in the works right now) but when it does come out I think you will be very impressed. The way we are envisioning the finished product should help you maximize and optimize your advertising efforts.

Thank you again for the suggestion – keep them coming!

Just one additional thing Chuck – Google Analytics is not something that we would be able to offer affiliates in its current form. There is no way for us to split out your traffic from everyone else’s unless we made a separate lead site for every affiliate.

You can use Google Analytics on your own Web site to track hits and traffic patterns.

Google Conversion counter and Yahoo Search Optimizer would be able to give you the conversion info you want, but only for PPC campaigns run on Yahoo and Google.

Anyway – just wanted to give you a thorough answer.

Hi Jack – I may have an easier solution for you to help us track keyword conversions. What if it was left up to us to capture the keywords then when someone visited our site we could pass the keyword or phrase as a variable either in the url, or in a hidden form field to the main form. Then your site would just hang on to the keyword value as the user finishes the form. From there you could store the top 20 or so keywords that generated a number of leads for us in the Account System database. This way we could look and see what words are at least converting the best. This is something I do already on my sites to tell me who is at least clicking on the form from a particular keyword or phrase. Just an idea…

Foster - thanks for visiting and leaving the suggestion. We will be forwarding that idea to our IT department in order to work out feasibility issues; however, there are several projects ahead of it and it will most likely be some time before something like this is available. Keep the ideas coming though!
