“I Wish Google Would Just Go Away!”

April 14th, 2006 by James Omdahl

Have you ever thought that to yourself? Have you ever wished that you lived in a world where Google wasnt around? And for that matter, search engines werent around?

As an affiliate marketer your answer to these questions may very well be no - but many online companies may wish that search engines werent around.

Seth Godin posts about the lack of love for Google by many online companies and the reality that search engines arent going anywhere. He also discusses why the online world is no longer full of Web sites as much as it is full of Web pages.

A quick and interesting Friday read.

I have been dropped by Google after two years or so of enjoying a number two spot.

You cant own the net, so why try?

Google has gone from classic search engine, to marketing whore.

I think your comment really expresses the frustration that many webmasters and online marketers feel in regards to Google.

It is hard to work with a company like Google when they treat advertisers and site owners as outsiders and consumables.

The fact of the matter is many companies wouldn’t be able to survive without Google. And Google can continue to treat advertisers and partners like a commodity as long as they stay number one in the search biz.

But is that the right thing to do?

I don’t think so – and the current level of quite arrogance that Google has been exuding since they went public will eventually come back to bite them.

But for now, we have to hang in there, and hope that things improve.
