MSN Result Manipulation - Old Tricks Get You New Treats
I just got off the phone with R, a buddy of mine who also happens to be one of our big affiliates and pretty darn good SEO (might be a bit of an understatement). It was a great conversation on we had a pretty good laugh at the expense of MSN Search.
You see, there is this one person out there who has figured out how to spam the heck out of MSN and get ranked in the search results for whatever term that he/she wants.
Now I am not going to call anyone out on this directly - I actually kinda respect the affiliate for finding a loop-hole and going all out. I mean, this person is ranking at or near the top for practically any result that can make you money online.
I think the real question is if MSN will be able to clean up their results and keep them clean or if they will continue to be susceptible to this kind of manipulation. I mean, I understand that MSN Search is still fairly young, but it seems like the algorithm is getting fooled by some new twists on old tricks - including redirects.
The funny part is, it looks like this affiliate is ranking for some terms in Yahoo! as well.
I guess it is time for some search engineers to take a hard look at their spam filtering techniques.
Finally, as a bit of a side note, what the heck is going on with Yahoo and MSN ranking blogspot domains? I think all you have to do is create a free blog, point some links, and the power of the blogspot domain will help you rise to the top. What's up with that!
Alright, I'm done. Thanks for the fun talk R.
