The same affiliate who suggested the Keyword Tumbler suggested a tool called Rapid Keyword, so today I got some time to download Rapid Keyword and give it a spin.
First thing to know, this is not a free tool - a one seat license is about $70.00 and a two seat license is about $100.00. So if you are the type of person who does not want to pay for a keyword tool, this isnt for you. If you are willing to drop a Benjamin Franklin on a tool, keep reading.
First impressions of the tool were OK. It is fairly clean looking, and while I would not call the interface “intuitive,” it is fairly easy to figure out.
[Please note - the most important part of this post is after the jump, so make sure you keep reading (yes, I am tricky like that)]
I started going through the process of generating keywords, I entered 4 keywords and using the “Related Keyword Spider” I got 60 keywords. Using the same 4 keywords and the “Meta Tag Spider” I got 135 keywords. I used the same 4 keywords again with the Overture Suggestion tool (100 keywords), Google Proximity Search (0 keywords - might be broken), Google Groups Proximity (0 keywords - might be broken), Yahoo Related Keyword (40 keywords), and Google Keyword Suggestion Tool (84 keywords). Fairly basic stuff, but a quick way to get a keyword list.
Once I had all of my keywords put together I sent them over to the duplicate keyword tool, which pulls out any duplicates. I could also filter the keywords by entering words I dont want in the list, making it easy to clean out bad keywords. There is also a remover function that removes a list of keywords from the master list you are using, great for taking out keywords that already may be in your PPC accounts.
Rapid Keyword also has an “Analyzer” that will show how many web pages, searches, Google ads, Overture ads, and Miva ads there are for a particular keyword - helpful information when you are looking for less competitive terms to bid on.
The “Manage” function provides tools that control keyword lists - including splitting lists, merging lists, and the “reverse filter” that pulls selected keywords out of a larger keyword list.
There is also a function that “wraps” keywords so that they are ready to be entered as exact, phrase and broad match into Google. This is a great function, but you can get the same thing for free with Mikes AdWords Wrapper.
Now all of these features are dandy, but nothing to really write home about. I was about ready to write off this tool as unexceptional, but then I found the granddaddy of all of the functions, the Typo Generator. There are seven options to use on the type generator. They are Common Misspellings, Transposed Letters, Missing Letters, Transposed Word Boundary, Keyboard Errors, Double Strikes and Letter substitutions.
So how powerful is the Typo Generator? I used a list of 60 keywords and selected all of the variation styles except for Transposed Word Boundary and Double Strikes. When I hit the “Generate Typos” button by jaw hit the floor - I went from 60 keywords to almost 31,000. 31,000! Talk about getting the “long tail terms.”
While many of the features of the Rapid Keyword tool can be found for free on the web, I have never seen a typo generator like this one. Plus, Keyword Generator gives you a simple way to manage those annoying keyword lists we all have sitting on our computers.
Overall, I give the Rapid Keyword two thumbs up - mainly for the Typo Generator. I mean, 60 keywords to 31,000…that is crazy talk.
You can go here to download a 24-hour free trial - try it out and buy it if you like it.

James, this is some interesting stuff. But wont using typo keywords result in a slightly lower quality of traffic? I mean, were going to get people searching for “atuo” insurance, right?
Also, did you do this:

Wow James–31,000 typos?? That really is crazy!
This sounds like a great tool to help affiliates come up with niche terms and generate more money. Thanks for passing this along to the rest of us PPCers!

No Peter - you can laugh at me now. Thanks for pointing out the typo - all fixed.
Actually, there are a ton of perfectly intelligent people who misspell words when they search for things - so I dont think they are lower quality, maybe just poor typists. I know I do it quite a bit (as you already pointed out). Not all of us can be as perfect as you Peter
