Ross Dunn at Search Engine Guide wrote a must-read article for those of you who are starting to think about search engine optimization (SEO) or are beginners in the SEO world. Ross goes over the things that you need to check to make sure your pages are search engine friendly.

Thanks for the link. Good info even if youve heard some of it before. Should one make a non-commercial site also search engine friendly? I think so, if your goal is to share information.

Hey Don - if your goal is to share information I think it is essential to be search engine friendly.
A lot of people (website designers in particular) forget that there is no real point in having a super fancy, whistles and bells website if no one can find it. Since search engines are the main tool people use to find sites, you should always build a site that “plays nice” with search engine spiders.
Following the advice in the article will at least make your site indexable - which is the first step in the optimization process.
