Recapturing Your Memory: Tracking Changes in the New Year

January 3rd, 2007 by Penny Hagerman

If youre back at work after a long winter break (nap?) and trying to get back in the swing of things, youre not alone. As youve probably read in Jamess posts here on the blog, we were off work here at InsureMe for days on end during the holidays, and Denver has been covered in snow for more than two weeks now (with more to come this Friday). After spending all that extra time over the holidays sleeping, eating and visiting with family and friends, Im sure were all in the same boat: groggy, bloated and wondering if well ever be able to gear back up to full productivity. I dont know about you, but I feel like my brain is still on vacation!

But as James also mentioned in a recent post, its never more important to get things cranking in your PPC accounts than in Q1 because this is the time when we can all see the fruits of our labor (so to speak). Fresh from their own holiday vacations, consumers are back online too—and ready to shop their insurance!

If you made changes to your Google PPC accounts in preparation for the new year—but your memory fails you now as you sit in front of your computer trying to refocus and remember just what it was that you did—theres good news: while youve been overindulging and hibernating, Google has been keeping track for you!

For those of you who are PPC newbies and havent heard yet, Google has a tool called “My Change History” that allows you to view changes youve made in your accounts for the past three months—everything from pausing a campaign to changing a bid or adding a new keyword. And, if you share an account with someone else who has a login of their own, it also shows you who made each change so you can make sure youre all on the same page.

To refresh your memory on all those recent changes and learn more about how theyre impacting your account, just sign in and click on “Tools” under the Campaign Management tab. The “My Change History” tool is there, along with other helps you might find useful in succeeding at PPC. Just select the date range youd like to view (you can view all changes for a particular time period, like last month, or filter the results by the type of change—whatever works best for you) to see what you did, when you did it, and what effect theyre having on your account.

Youll feel like youve suddenly recaptured your memory—and youll be back at the top of your game in no time!

Thats great to know. I recently changed a bunch of bids and then realized that the bids shouldnt have been changed. This tool will allow me to reset things back to where they need to be. Thanks!

Glad to help, Mike! And yes, the change history tool makes things easier by helping you quickly and easily restore bids or keywords to a previous status if you make a mistake. Anything that does that is A-OK in my book!
