About the InsureMe Bloggers

Megan L. Mahan

meganprofile.jpgMegan Mahan is a former InsureMe lead copywriter turned freelance writer, and resides the nation’s capital where she enjoys music, art, the outdoors, hugging her dictionary, and returning to Colorado to visit friends.

Jeb Foster

jebprofile.jpgJeb was born in Burlington, Vermont, in blissful ignorance of the world of insurance. Now, after more than a quarter century, with a couple of degrees, thinning hair and a few insurance policies of his own, Jeb has acquired working definitions of things like deductibles and floaters. By no means an insurance expert—his training is in journalism—he still manages to write on the subject twice weekly for the InsureMe Agent Blog.

When he’s not fulfilling his duties as a copywriter, he enjoys spending time with his girlfriend, Mariah, and their three Jack Russell Terriers, Puck, Jake and Seamus.

Maribeth Neelis

maribethprofile pic.jpgMaribeth was born in the overcast, western suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio, and there she remained until heading off to college to study journalism, and Spanish. Something of a nomad, Maribeth traveled frequently and relocated a few times before making Denver, Colorado, and InsureMe her home.

An occasional Agent Blog scribe, Maribeth loves writing and reading, especially about sales and marketing. She attends industry conferences and and performs various marketing-related tasks. Other than insurance, Maribeth likes whipping up new concoctions in the kitchen and restoring old furniture.

Lori Reed

loriprofile.jpgLori has been in marketing since the Stone Age (pun not intended to reflect her past work in Geology), but the work has never been as much fun as it is with InsureMe. Lori’s family includes two teenage daughters, and if that isn’t intimidating enough, she works with three stellar copywriters. But while it may take a bit to get her off writer’s block, Lori has yet to incur speaker’s block though.

Hi, Megan:

I saw your comment encouraging more posts from me today at Insurance Coverage Blog. Thanks for the kind words. In a few weeks I finish teaching a law school course, and I hope then to start posting a bit more often. Thanks again, and I hope to be in touch.

Regards,

Marc

I checked out Marc's site there but i was wondering if you guys know any other good insurance blogs?

Do Insurance Agents really have the time or patience to blog? What percentage of agents actually blog?
When do they blog? During business hours? Is blogging really beneficial to us? Do agents actually share their success stories in a sincere way or is just a way for them to brag?

Hi Rick,

Thanks for all the questions. I believe that more agents read sales, marketing and insurance blogs than actually write themselves.

However, blogging for business has been on the rise over the last few years. Companies you would never imagine take the time to blog because blogging increases your internet presence, allowing people to find you more easily online. And let's face it more people than ever seek insurance online because it's easier, faster and our world is becoming increasingly virtual. Many people in the younger generations are actually more comfortable conducting these types of transactions online instead of over the phone or in person.

So how do you build your online cred? Well, a lot of professionals do so through a company blog. It is a way to connect with customers and make prospects feel comfortable doing business with you. I think you could justify spending 10-15 minutes a day blogging because this is yet another way that to prospect online.

And I would not recommend bragging or having a smug online personality; one would want to present themselves the same way online that they would on a sales call.

If blogging is something you are interested in pursuing, I suggest a blog dedicated to informing your prospects about insurance--money-saving tips, how to make sense of the complicated subject matter and how to find the right agent. This is a great way to build trust and a rapport with potential clientèle.
