Increasing Your Web Presence: Distinguishing Right from Wrong
Earlier this morning, some InsureMe eyes spotted a featured article on Insurance News Net about updating your agency website as a way to get more prospects to your site. And we've got a bone to pick. :)
"[...] Not every website delivers the goods," says the article's author (who, yes, will remain nameless). "Too many agents are settling for a trickle of Web-generated leads, when, with just a couple of tweaks, the floodgates would open."
While I'm all for agencies improving website technologies [see Insurance Industry Lags in Website Performance], it's important to understand that having a pretty website is not going to magically drive more visitors to your page. It will not turn your trickle of web-generated prospects into a constant stream. It will not open the prospecting floodgates.
So why should you even bother with updating your site?
Quite simply, an informational, easy-to-navigate site will encourage the visitors who do make it to your site to stay there—increasing the chances that they'll apply for a quote online or over the phone...which we can all agree is a good thing.
But when it comes to increasing the visibility of your site on the Internet, slapping your photo on the page and adding a couple testimonials just isn't going to cut it.
But don't fret, my friends. The good news is that InsureMe has an entire blog dedicated to web marketing and increasing website visibility. It's called the InsureMe Affiliate Blog and it's got tips and tools galore to help you step up your presence on the web—and that, my friends, will help you open the floodgates.
Not sure where to start on the Affiliate blog? I'd suggest starting with the posts related to Search Engine Optimization (SEO) (be sure to check out James' latest post on SEO here) and the Pay-Per-Click posts (check out Penny's experiences as a PPC newbie here).
Of course, if you have questions along the way, please don't hesitate to post them on the Affiliate blog—we're here to help in any way we can. And besides, comments make James go crazy.
