Wi-Fi Security (Or Lack Thereof)

Great story by David Pogue (tech editor for The Times) earlier this year regarding the security, or rather, the lack thereof, of wireless internet connections.

For this investigation, Pogue met up with a technical consultant at a Manhattan wi-fi hot spot. Without much effort, the consultant was able to see:

  • A copy of every email Pogue sent and received
  • A list of Web sites Pogue visited
  • The graphics on the sites that Pogue visited

Scary to say the least, especially for insurance agents who may be working wirelessly on an insurance application—which we all know contains personally identifiable information.

Check out Pogue's article for tips on keeping your wireless connection to yourself.
